Eight Books My Toddler Reads on Repeat (Plus a Bonus!)
One of my biggest joys as a mom has been reading with my son. (There are moments where it’s quite the pain, too - don’t get me wrong. 😂 I’ve included a solution to this struggle at the end of the post!) The coolest part has been watching my son fall in love with reading himself. The crazy kid has even managed to memorize a couple handfuls of books, which completely blows my mind, but wow - am I so impressed by him!!
I’ve compiled a list of some (there are honestly too many for me to link all of them here 😂) of Finny’s all time favorite books to read & have read to him!
<Please note that each book is linked with an Amazon Affiliate Link, and, if you purchase through my link, I’ll get a little commission. Just click the book picture to be taken to the link! Thank you for your support!>
Pete the Cat
Finn loves Pete the Cat books SO much. He’s got each of these books memorized from cover-to-cover, and he reads them daily. We even ended up making a Yoto card for him with all of these on it bc he was asking for them so often! It’s quite possibly his most-played Yoto card!
Caps for Sale
I grew up with my dad reading this book to me. Now, Finn loves when we read it to him - especially when Pops reads it!! He enjoys the story so much, my mom even go him a checked cap to wear, and, thanks to the story, Finn calls it “my own checked cap!” 😂
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
Finn memorized this one easily due to its repetitive nature, but his favorite part is at the end - we yell “BEEAARRRR!!” then rush through the remainder of the story. It’s good fun, even if it leaves you out of breath afterward.
The Three Billy Goats Gruff
It HAS to be THIS version of the book. The art, the intensity of the story… nothing is toned down in this old book, and Finn EATS. IT. UP. This was the very first book that he memorized at barely two years old, and we immediately scoured the internet for more copies since they’re hard to come by. (If the Amazon link through the pic doesn’t work, check Thriftbooks.com - they usually have it.) It’s a wild tale in the best way, and it’s Finny’s all time fave.
Bonus: The Yoto Audio Player
Finn lives for his Yoto player, which is everything I dreamed of when we bought it for him for Christmas! It’s such a fun, screen-free options for your kiddos. With cards that have music, soundscapes, and audiobooks as well as an app with podcasts, timers, and other exclusive sounds, this audio player does it all. We love the mini, the adventure jacket, and the make-your-own cards. I’m thinking the next thing we’ll get are some headphones for him to use with it in the car & at restaurants. (Oh! And bonus - the app allows you to put sound limits on it, so no burst eardrums!!)
I highly recommend gifting your child a card with his/her favorite books read-aloud by some loved ones. Finn has a card with stories read by his parents, his grandparents, and even his great-grandparents! It’s such a beloved gift!
